Chocolate Peppermint Fudge Bliss Balls

Chocolate peppermint fudge bliss balls

These chocolate peppermint fudge bliss balls make me happy. They bring back many childhood memories of enjoying an after dinner mint at one of my parent’s dinner parties…. even just writing that made me smile 😊

My husband and I aren’t massive dessert fans at all. We can both do without it most of the time, even when dining out. If asked would we like a dessert menu at the end of dinner, either of us will answer for both of us – ‘no, thank you’. I mean, everyone loves a treat on occasion for sure. A little piece of cake, a gelato or a very indulgent (for the intolerant amongst us) little bowl of tiramisu. I know we enjoy them when we do decide to have one, but it’s by no means on a regular basis.

A piece of dark chocolate, homemade chocolate or a bliss ball on the other hand and now you’re speaking our language! 🙌🏻 Nothing could be more perfect for us. It’s just a little taste of something delicious, but not overly sweet. I don’t tend to make any of my desserts very sweet because I like to ensure almost every mouthful we have is nourishing us and too much sweetness, natural or otherwise, won’t be doing that.

I must admit I went through quite a bad phase of histamine intolerance and regular daily reflux a little while ago, which meant I was off chocolate and mint of any sort. For some, peppermint can be a wonderful digestive aid but for others, like me at the time, it can do quite the opposite 😕 I still avoid having large amounts of either but a little in a recipe here and there works just fine for me now.

That is always one of my aims when treating clients….. making sure we work together to improve their health and get them back on all wholefoods. I think it’s so important. For mental health and for gut health! It’s not always possible of course, as some intolerances are persistent but I certainly try to get them eating as many foods as possible. The joy these wonderful clients get from eating a varied diet again fills my heart to the brim 💗

Now then….. onto the chocolate peppermint fudge bliss balls. We do like them as dessert but they make a perfect afternoon treat as well!

Do you have a flavour that takes you straight back to your childhood? I’d love to hear about it in the comments if you do 😀

Chocolate peppermint fudge bliss balls

Chocolate peppermint fudge bliss balls
Makes 10 bliss balls

Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond meal
  • 3 Tbsp cacao
  • 10 fresh dates, pitted (about one cup)
  • 1 tsp peppermint essence (5ml)
  • 1 Tbsp non-dairy milk (20ml – I used almond)
  • 1/2 cup desiccated coconut for rolling

Directions

  1. Place all ingredients in a Thermomix or food processor and blend to combine (15 seconds, speed 6). The mixture will be VERY sticky and fudgey, but that’s OK! 😀
  2. Roll into small bliss balls then roll in the coconut to coat
  3. Refrigerate for an hour and also store in the fridge
  4. Grab one or two when you’d like a little treat and enjoy! 💞
